Aladdin's earring

Sons home for a pre-birthday weekend, we went to mooch around Pembroke, a town in the south of the county. We found this tiny shop filled with the most amazing textiles: rugs, shawls, throws, cushions and bags all imported from Kashmir. The owner, Jaya, was a charming man who explained that this was only the second day the shop was open. He'd had a previous one, along with a restaurant, until two years ago but the monsoon floods of 2014 devastated his homeland and destroyed his family's houses and businesses and drowned hundreds of people, his grandfather included. Landlocked people, they had no boats or ways of combating the floodwater, few Kashmiris can even swim.
So he sold his businesses and with the money went home to support his family and help  rebuild their lives. Now he has returned to Pembroke and started again with a new shop, selling the traditional crafts products of his country.

Naturally we purchased a couple of these beautiful items and Jaya added some decorative freebies to the bag. Here's Huw dangling a Christmas bell from his ear - as you do.

Extras: Jaya showing us the wooollen embroidery style that his family specializes in, and an antique silk patchwork quilt.

Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's spilt 'milk' and congratulations to  those who guessed correctly it was paint - a can fell off a lorry apparently.
