Marsupium Photography

full steam ahead

I joined one of the Edinburgh photography meetups today to get a guided tour of the SS Explorer. The SS Explorer was launched in 1955 and features a triple-expansion steam engine. It was operated by the Marine Lab in Aberdeen to investigate breeding and feeding grounds. It is now berthed in Leith Docks. I didn't realise this ship was there. The tour was great. We were shown around by the very knowledgeable members of the SS Explorer Preservation Society. After the tour we had some time to explore the ship by ourselves. I particularly liked mooching around the engine room and boilers. All the pipes, valves, dials and mechanics. Totally brilliant. I was retired I could well imagine joining the society and help to restore the ship (they are looking for people...). Anyway, I hope to go back there. A tripod would certainly be very helpful.

Anyway, I have uploaded the full set to flickr and updated my photo site.
