View from the tent

We bought a tent for a summer holiday some years ago (2006) when we camped for a couple of nights in Wasdale while we assaulted Scafell Pike enroute to the West Coast of Scotland, cycling on the Uists and visiting Orkney. Not used it since. The extra is at that campsite in Wasdale a decade ago.

This summer, with the weather being warm at night at times we were determined to pitch the tent in the back garden and spend a couple of nights inside. Tonight's the first night.

It's been a wonderful sunny, clear day with a great, clear atmosphere, warm but not close. We walked into town as was customary then came home to lunch on the patio. The afternoon was spent making stuff, Susan made bread rolls for tonight while I made a custard for ice cream.

Then the tent went up and the preparations for a barbecue with a rather smokey (to begin with anyway) fire pit adding warmth as the evening drew on. An extremely pleasant evening in the gloaming, under the stars relaxing with a glass of whisky at the end of the day. Susan saw a magnificent shooting star jag across the sky.

Then it was time for sleep, the only drawback of this tent is that you can't stand up in it, which I find a bit of a challenge. I don't really know why we bought a tent you can't stand up in. But there you are. If we like it enough, the next one we get we'll be able to stand up in!
