Bon Odori

The season of Obon is upon us. This is the annual Buddhist event for commemorating one's ancestors.

It's believed that each year during Obon, the ancestor's spirits return to this world in order to visit their relatives. Lanterns are hung and special dances, Bon Odori, are performed, graves are visited and food offerings made at temples.

Different areas host the equivalent of street parties, one of which the woofer and I enjoyed this evening. There was food and drink, people of all ages wearing beautiful summer yukatas as well as lots of drumming and dancing.

Another great evening!
