U-Bahn München: 77/100 Poccistraße

Munich Underground: 77/100 Poccistraße

Repdigit. Entry #77 in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series is Poccistraße underground station. The stop was added additionally between Goetheplatz and Implerstraße stations (which were opened in 1971 and 1975, respectively) in May 1978. Originally, there were plans for a cross-city autobahn tunnel, that would have passed very close by the location of the station and which would had to be built first. These plans were soon abandoned, however, and Poccistraße station was built much earlier than anticipated.

The curved station is dominated by two rows of rather massive yellow tiled pillars, and an interjacend vaulted ceiling. It is still quite obvious that the station used to be an ordinary part of the underground tunnels. By the way, the station is not under construction: the ceiling looks more or less always like this - it might need a new layer of paint, though.

Somehow, the design is rather similar to Fraunhoferstraße underground station.
