Poço do Bacalhau

We were up at six thirty to get the early bus from Faja Grande to Lajedo on several miles to the south. This is the start of a 13 km walk back to our village. The majority of the route is on well waymarked mule paths and although it's not a very long distance, the rise and fall f the terrain over rocky hillsides and down into ravines and gorges made it quite a challenge for us. The first half of the walk brought us to the pretty little traditional village of Fajezinha, where our guidebook had tempted us with the vision of a shop and café but on arrival everywhere seemed to be closed up for reasons we were unable to decipher. We sat in the shade of trees in the village square and at our sandwiches. The last section of the walk took us high into the mountains above our village and then gently down through terraces of little fields and grassy plateaux with an alpine atmosphere, little birds chattering in the trees about us and leading us onward down the path.
We were pretty exhausted and sweaty by the time we got back to Faja Grande and it was quite a relief to jump into the waterfall pool up at Poço do Bacalhau to cool off.

i have backblipped the last couple of days if anyone cares to take a look
