Jewellery Quarter

And so our Blipweekend continues.  Chantler 63 male variety arrived so we could have a Big breakfast.  This was followed by a trip into Birmingham.  We wandered through the Bull Ring, Grand Central and into the Mailbox where we ventured up to the 25th floor of the Cube to admire the view from the roof terrace of Marco Pierre White's Restaurant.  Great view up there but we decided to pass on the drink.  Next stop was along the canal and into the Library where we had a whistlestop tour because we needed to fit in a quick snack somewhere before our guided walk around the Jewellery Quarter.

We'd already walked miles by the time we got there, but we had a super walk around with a very informative guide who showed us many fascinating things and told us some great little stories.  I was amazed by some of the brickwork - patterns and colours and although the doors in this shot are rather in need of attention, they also have some wonderful patterns within them. Many of the buildings are in need of attention and fortunately  they are subject to conservation orders.

The extra is an example of a typical old letterbox in one of the buildings in the Jewellery Quarter.  Alabaster and Wilson have been making fine jewellery in this building for 125 years now and are still thriving.
