A Quintessential English Summer's Evening

I went for a walk at Lodge Farm intending to shoot the harvest or maybe even the deer. As I walked along the farm track, muffled clapping and whoops of delight drifted across from the Nazeing Common cricket ground in the distance. I can't pretend that I could hear the sound of leather on willow from where I was standing. What's with those black and white stumps and red bails? Village cricket has gone all Kerry Packer. :)

I've been trying unsuccessfully to find out why Nazeing Common Cricket Club has a scallop shell as its emblem and why they are known as the #baggyblues.
