Vacation Reading

This is a quick snap with my phone, as the camera connector cords are packed... we're heading out tomorrow morning for Port Townsend, Washington, for a week.

It's a small place -- about 10,000 people -- with much to offer, particularly for those who like to learn. Phil will be among them this week, taking an introductory class on hand tool woodworking at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking, with nine other students. (Don't miss the charming animated video about the class on that link!)

The woodworking school is one of several appealing facilities located at Fort Worden State Park, a World War I era military base that now operates as cultural center, continuing education facility, and outdoor recreation area. We'll be staying less than two miles away in a little vacation cottage, and while Phil is "in school" from 9-5, I'll be enjoying all that free time with no responsibilities!

Thanks to Port Townsend's compact size, there are several places within a mile or a bit more that I'll be walking to -- the food co-op, the library, a great bakery, the Jefferson Museum of Art & History, and more. I'm planning on a good walk every morning, after dropping Phil at the woodworking school, and in the afternoon, quiet time "at home" to delve into that stack you see!

In it are 35mm slides (remember those?) to sort, genealogical materials to peruse, stretching books to focus on, a novel, two books I've hardly looked at about archiving family photos and keepsakes, and a guide to my little Sony RX100 camera, which I hope will enable me to expand my use of it. I also have my Olympus E-M10 and two lenses with me, my yoga mat, and my iPad, just in case I need a change from all that reading!

The cottage has just a mini-kitchen (small fridge and microwave), so we're likely to have some of our evening meals out, and I think the Silverwater Cafe might be visited on two of those evenings! There's also a fascinating brewery that both Phil and I want to try -- love the ale names! (They're not all available all the time -- click on "Taproom" to see what we'll be drinking.)

Comments will be short and sweet, as I find typing on my iPad frustrating, but I'll keep up with your journals!
