First You See It, Then You Don't...

Facebook has been reminding me every day for the last couple of weeks about the Market Harborough Summer Fayre to be held today. I couldn't think why, until this morning when I checked the page. The Red Arrows were due to fly over!

I consulted the website and the Facebook page on which I discovered that the Red Arrows had flown over yesterday, a day early. Someone had got the date wrong. A Spitfire was still scheduled to appear.

Basil and I set off late, shortly before 2.30 pm and arrived 3.30 pm. As I was paying the entry fee, a droning noise made us all look up and there was the Spitfire. My camera was not ready, I had to drag it out of my bag, release the long lens, take off the lens cap and adjust the shutter speed, etc etc.

The plane was due to make only three passes. The photos above show all that I could manage. Not impressive.

But I was impressed with the food stalls on the site, especially FarrinHeight Foods who specialise in outside catering for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets. Wonderful mint choc whoopie pies, blueberry polenta slices and a ratatouille that really stirred the taste buds, plus corn cous cous (NOT semolina). I bought supplies to take home. I heartily recommend anyone wanting a Street Food stall that offers these options to look them up.

Next door, CrepeSels was offering gluten free crepes. I had mine with lemon and sugar. I cannot begin to tell you  how wonderful it is to find street food outlets offering food like this that I can eat. His was also the only stall that I found that was offering tea.

While sipping a large cuppa, I had an interesting conversation with Glen, a young South African who is making his home here with his wife and son. He's currently a house husband because his job as a bar manager wasn't giving him enough time with his child. He was asking about ways to get into photography. My Fuji x-t1 and 100-400mm lens was being much admired.

As Basil and I were leaving, I remarked to one of the ladies directing traffic, who was also an organiser, on the absence of a tea tent. She told me that they'd booked one but the woman hadn't turned up! I do like a cup of tea.

Basil in my bad books today after waking me up at 5.30 am retching badly. His fault. He'd refused to eat the food I'd put out for him on Friday because it was in a bowl he didn't recognise. He even growled at the plate. He was obviously hungry but wouldn't give in. Hence the retching.

I was cross but got up to tip the food out on to the mat. He ate it up pretty quickly. Then I let him out into the garden before returning to bed.

He knew I was not happy with him. He had that sort of guilty look about him and chose to be fairly obedient. He has eaten most of his dinner out of his old bowl tonight. I expect I'll have to tip the rest out on to his mat before bedtime to make sure he eats it.

I spoke to a dog trainer at the Fayre this afternoon. She said that if he was at least eating from the mat, carry on with it. Sometimes even dogs need a change of routine.
