Agüimes

Our Lonely Planet guide book said that Agüimes is often overlooked but it is the prettiest town on the island, so this morning we decided to go visit it. It was a bank holiday here today so most shops and cafes were shut, which was perfect for wandering up and down the streets with their pastel coloured Canarian style buildings. We have noticed that every village we have visited so far has interesting sculptures and statues - so today we did a 'photo shoot' of nearly every statue in the town - see extras, where Luke is being a bit naughty in one of them, and Adam is comparing caught Pokemons in another!

Not far from the town is the Barranco de Guayadeque, a ravine that runs through the central part of the island and  where there are more troglodyte caves. Many of the caves are used as restaurants and so we decided to have lunch at one of them. It was 32C outside but in the cave it was pleasant and cool. I have added an extra of this restaurant in a cave.

Gavin spent the afternoon fixing stuff and organising things on the boat. The marina is huge as by the start of the race in November there will be about an extra 200 boats in the marina, all going on the ARC challenge and some even continue on the Round the World challenge. It is tradition to paint the name of the boat on either the marina wall or a nearby rock, so Gavin and I tried to find an empty spot for their entry to be added to this collection - see extra.
