Hello Sailor!

As part of a WWII living history experience at the Combined Ops event this weekend, the Royal Navy Encampment recreated an anti aircraft post attached to an airfield.

As convincing replica scale model aircraft of the era took to the air, the Naval Ratings fired their Lewis guns to demonstrate fire against sneak attacks.

The officer in charge told me the JU87 at the start of the war was the most common dive bomber used against coastal convoys.

One fact that fascinating me was the scream of the JU87 was intended to demoralise sailors whether Royal Navy or Merchant. The thought of that sound haunting sailors is my inspiration for the Mono Monday theme of SOUND chosen by JDO.
