Temptation

After a very short night on the ferry and a ridiculously early start, we drove until 9am this morning to have breakfast at a very plush service station near Le Mont St Michel with the sun shining.

By the time we reached Niort about 3pm the weather was as it has been all summer at home- thick cloud and pelting rain.
We picked up or Semaine dossiers at a point outside the town and then there was nothing for it but to put the panniers on the bikes and cycle into town in the rain and find our hotel.

This proved slightly more difficult than I had hoped, and there was a lot of re routing until we stumbled on it almost by accident, wet and a tad miserable.

But unpacked now, with the bikes stowed under cover, we're drying off and looking forward to dinner.

The town seems to be filled with cyclists, waterproofed and gathered in huddles trying to find their way from a-b. I hope the natives are not too put out at having their town overrun.
