Why did I come in here?

Pop!

Ever wondered why gas explosions occur when people switch a light on? Here's why. The closing of the electrical circuit often causes a minor spark, where gas is concerned it doesn't matter if the spark is the size of one of Cern's lost bits of the universe or a match head. The result is the same, Boom!

Have a look at the light switch in your busiest areas. This is from our kitchen, I noticed this morning that one of the rocker switches looked slightly odd. When I removed the cover plate (yes I did switch the power off) the plastic and internal brass fitting fell off revealing the spark damage beneath.

It's easily changed, if you have any doubts get somebody who knows what they're doing to fix it. The cost is better than the alternative.
