Thatch Harvest

Another lovely day and we headed to Appledore, a quaint village located at the coast, where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet.  We wandered along the coast and then explored the winding back streets, which were strung with bunting.  I particularly liked One End Street – which was a dead end!  We had a picnic, looking over the estuary to the beaches on the other side, and decided to head a little further north to spend the afternoon at a beach.  We ended up at Putsborough beach which had been recommended to me by a colleague who had been brought up in the area.  It was indeed a magnificent beach.  BB built sandcastles, dugs holes, paddled and wandered. I wandered and read my book in the sunshine and TT snoozed!

We headed home late afternoon, and discovered that the field beside our cottage was being harvested for thatch.  It was interesting to watch them cutting the crop with their old machinery.  The extras are a street in Appledore and the sandcastle builders.
