One Man Went To Mow..
His Vineyard doesn't really scan. But this man was definitely mowing the strips between the vines. Some Vintners let them grow wild which I quite like as they attract some pretty flowers.
It was Monday and it was quite cool weatherwise - only 23°C - and very pleasant to work in. Tomorrow it's meant to be back up to 30°C and then Wednesday 32°C and Thursday...35°C. It will not be pleasant.
Word of the day came courtesy of a report from the weekend that the German government wanted to recommend that in the event of a catastrophe, every household should have enough food and water to survive for 10 days.
I hadn't seen the report and so when my colleagues were discussing it at lunch I was a bit lost. Especially because they kept going on about having to buy a hamster. I just couldn't figure out how buying a hamster would help families through some sort of disaster.
It put an end to the discussion when I asked why.
Your German word of the day is "der Hamsterkauf" (plural die Hamsterkäufe). And it comes from the hamster's habit of storing food in its cheek pouches and it means panic buying in German. There's no way you can know that without knowing that..
