'Reflection'

A beautiful day...we drove to Salisbury, a pretty drive that runs along the edge of the New Forest. The Park and Ride scheme is brilliant, and saves a lot of stress. We lived near Salisbury from 1971 to 1974 (Army posting).

After morning coffee we went to the Cathedral...there is an exhibition on at the moment 'Reflection'. A collection of works by nine international glass artists who have been inspired to create site-specific installations in response to the Cathedral.
Top left..'Launch' ..made from a thousand pieces of hand crafted mosaic glass and using three colours.
Top right....'Incandescant'.....this column of glass, made up of six hundred sections loosely depicting the cross, reproduces the colours of the window in the south aisle. It's reflection in the font is lovely.
Bottom left. ..'Devotion'...Three votive candle stands hold blown glass bottles. The eighty-one bottles each 'capture' the essence of individuals, in this case the saints and monarchs on the Cathedral's west front.
Bottom right.....'Sailed on a River of Crystal Light, into a Sea of Dew'...these tear drops falling into pools of water highlight both the importance of water in the Christian faith and the water that lies directly under the Cathedral.
So many pics..its been hard to choose.
We had lunch in the Cathedrals refectory which was delicious.

Next we visited the Nat.Trust..'Mompesson House'. and then 'Arundells' the country home of Sir Edward Heath....a very nice house with a beautiful garden that leads down to the river. These two buildings are set in Cathedral Close.

Dinner in a pub on the way home....least said about that the better. Put it this way .....we won't be going back!
