Small Coppers are back

It's been a worrying year for a number of our butterflies, including Small Copper. So it's been a great relief over the last few days to see quite a few at the nature reserve. Let's hope this latest brood manages to lay lots of eggs and the caterpillars make it through the winter. It is a different case with Silver-washed Fritillaries (see extra photo), which have had another good summer and are still on the wing, enjoying this late summer sun.
