Mein München: E wie Elisenstraße

My Munich: E stands for Elisenstraße

Elisenstraße, today's installment in my alphabetical Munich street series, represents the letter E. It is named after Elisabeth Ludovika of Bavaria, daughter of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria, and Queen consort of King Frederick William IV of Prussia.

The rather short street is located in the Maxvorstadt neighbourhood. It runs from Karlsplatz (Stachus) in the east, between Justizpalast (Palace of Justice) and the pictured Alter Botanischer Garten (Old Botanical Garden), to end after only 500 metres at Dachauer Straße in the west (at the intersection where my favourite bar Café Kosmos is).

The picture shows the Neptune fountain (built in 1937) in Alter Botanischer Garten, by Joseph Wackerle and Oswald Bieber, two artists who were very popular during the Nazi regime.

Selective colouring as per the series.
