Marsh Woundwort

Still not much tidying and too much fun! A bit of catching up time. Himself went off to the market and I did a bit of digging - my tray of leeks, kale and lettuces have been sitting on the wall waiting to be planted for two weeks! A serious amount of clearing and digging had to be undertaken before the bed was suitable. The woundwort (possibly the marsh variety) was rampant, described in a herbal as : coarse, hairy, and malodorous . Spot on but I quite like the odd odour. It has its uses too:

stamped with vinegar and applied in manner of a pultis, taketh away wens and hard swellings, and inflammation of the kernels under the eares and jawes, and if you distill the flowers the resulting mixture is guaranteed to: make the heart merry, to make a good colour in the face, and to make the vitall spirits more fresh and lively. Don't worry, there's still plenty left.

Tons of blackberries collected, the grapes are delicious and now the plums are ripening. A spot of jam making might be in order next.
