The Edge of the Wold

Beyond the Bay

Sometimes it seems that Morecambe Bay in its vastness goes on forever, but this evening as we looked across the layered mudflats peppered with tiny wading birds, there was the evidence of the Irish Sea beyond - a single ship. This would be best viewed large.

Wifie is in a walking mood at the moment, so we left the Olympics behind and walked over the Knott, coming back down through the old yew grove. On a whim, I suggested we walk back along the road overlooking Harefield Parrock, on the remote chance of seeing a hare (we've seen very few this year). And there, only a few metres from the wall, was a hare lying motionless in his form, his little heart visibly racing. The light had gone by then, but he was there, and we saw him. You can't ask much more than that.
