O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Oisin Leech is 50% of the Irish band The Lost Brothers. He and bandmate Mark McCausland originally met in Liverpool and they were back in town today to play a free gig as part of the Albert Dock Folk Festival. They've worked with many cool people over the last few years and their most recent (4th) album, 'New Songs of Dawn and Dust', was produced by top Mersey musician Bill Ryder-Jones, formerly of The Coral and now an acclaimed solo artist. (I plan to blip more about Bill in due course as he's recently agreed to be the Patron of this year's Liverpool Mental Health Festival, of which I'm one of the organisers... But more of that anon!)

Back to The Lost Brothers... Not only do they sing and play beautifully but they also write great songs. Have a listen to 'Bird in a Cage', for instance www.youtube.com/watch?v=pssHWQvvBSo

Alongside their own songs, they do a classy line in cover versions, including 'In Spite of All The Danger' (the only song George Harrison and Paul McCartney ever wrote together); a fantastic a cappella version of the Everly Brothers 'All I Have to Do is Dream'; 'Corrina, Corrina' as heard on 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' and Jimmy Reed's 'Baby What You Want Me To Do?'.

And they're lovely chaps too. What's not to like?
