Wiry

Another afternoon of free gigs down at the Albert Dock and I was right down the front to see the Alasdair Roberts Trio. Alasdair is one of Scotland's finest artistes and mixes his own songs with traditional Scottish balladry to great effect. Here he is with 'In Dispraise of Hunger' www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACCyw7XtUCc

Other points to note about Alasdair include that he's a long-term friend and collaborator of one of the USA's most idiosyncratic musicians, Will Oldham aka Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, and is also a part of the rather wonderful Furrow Collective.

(It was also great to see a solo show by Benji Kirkpatrick - who'll be well-known to fans of Faustus and the late, lamented, Bellowhead. Do have a listen to his banjo-rendition of the Jimi Hendrix classic 'Voodoo Chile' www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJomyWG_i1s )

So, yesterday I blipped an Irishman, today it's a Scotsman. Stay tuned to see whether I manage to blip an Englishman tomorrow. Or will the joke be on me?!

(With apologies to Welshmen!)
