Pushkin's pedicure walk

Pushkin took me for his constitutional as the light was fading. Our soltys (village chieftain) had been busy with his harrow on the large field opposite. We have both been absorbed with our tasks today but between times I have been trying to find out where the diterpenes - ferruginol and totarol occur. Totarol is widely used and generally extracted from highly rot resistant New Zealand trees although it is present in juniper and rosemary. It is assayed to establish the quality of gin. It costs thousands per kilo, which is nothing compared with ferruginol which costs hundreds for a few milligrams. They are both potent bactericides, especially in synergy with antibiotics. They also can stimulate apoptosis and inhibit undesirable communication between cells.
