Fish Tagging

Wow did I have a great day out. Went up to Lake Alexandrina in the McKenzie Country to watch the tagging of the Rainbow Trout. Except for two all were volunteers and what a busy morning they had. The fish were caught in big nets then transferred into buckets that had a special mixture to give them a slight anaesthetic. They were then measured and tagged and everything recorded after which they were returned to netting boxes in the stream and someone watched them until they were moving again and then released them. What an operation, there was 20 and 30 volunteers including some young children who were all given the opportunity to help. No one touched the fish unless they had wet gloves on. I learnt so much as they were all so willing to tell you about the exercise. The stream was teeming with fish, all so colourful and beautiful.
My friend and I then sat by the lake and enjoyed a picnic in the sun.
Never got home until after 6 pm . So concludes a perfect day. Couldn't resist putting more in extras. Hope your day has been as good as mine
