Life through the lens...

A Round Triangle

For those who don't know ( probably most of you) Triangle is a small village just outside Sowerby Bridge, on the Rochdale road, in Yorkshire.
Today we joined the Calderdale Heritage Walk for a tour of the area.
The main photo in the collage is of a very grand Palladian Mansion, Field House, which was built in 1749 by George Stansfeld a wealthy cloth merchant. The furniture was designed by Thomas Chippendale. ( sold off years ago)
The top left are the gates to The Old Hall which where the Stansfelds lived and rebuilt in 1630.

The bottom middle photo is of the workshops and barns at the rear of the house, which have now been converted into several cottages.

Middle left is the Trangle Inn where we met, and is now derelict. May be turned into housing.
The other two photos are some of the other properties we visited.also dating back to the 1700's.
Unfortunately we couldn't go inside, as they are all privately owned, but it was a privilege to be allowed in the gardens, and see them at close hand.
A truly fascinating three hours with a nice group of like minded people of all ages ( including a couple in their early 20's)
There is such a lot of history in the Calder Valley. A little gem, so often overlooked by it's big neighbours of Leeds, Bradford, and Kirklees.
It was also good that we had a lady to lead the walk who was so interesting, and passionate about the history of the area.
We look forward to meeting up and going on another walk in the area soon.
A nice change from our usual Sunday walks in the Dales.
We were also lucky that the weather was fine, with some sunshine thrown in too.c
