Bavarian Highland Games

Today in a town to the east of Munich, Schliersee, the Bavarian Highland Games are taking place. A former German ski double Olympic gold winner, Markus Wasmeier has built, since 2007, an outdoor museum of a Bavarian Alpine village. He is a very popular sportsman and personality and an ambassador of the Bavarian rural scene. But he clearly knows a good attraction when he sees one. It was a good sunny day, here a short video (need to first watch a 10 sec. advert).

So I joined in but used my tractor(s) front loader to heave two of the logs felled in March. In the photo the first one, a 7.5m long spruce. The loader managed to lift this without a problem, the next log, a 7m long but hardwood, was too much. However by lifting one end and dragging it on to the trailer managed to get the job done.

Was quite proud of myself and the JD. Quite a bit of work involved when you only have one tractor and the front loader is of the old type where you have no opportunity to adjust angle of attack etc. Actually most difficult part is offloading on to the trailer. Angie as many women, insist on annoying us busy amateur DIY types by getting out the vacuum cleaner the moment we open the tool box or in my case the lawn tractor to clear up all the sawdust from my sawing and splitting operations. She drove past the trailer, with the log poised just above it, and as I shouted to her to get out the way, the log rolled off the front loader on to the trailer and crashed to the ground less than a meter from her. The front loader with such a heavy load, very slowly sinks if not being used and in the moment I shouted at her was exactly the moment when the log rolled off the spears and I wasn't looking and couldn't react.

The driver of the small tractor had gone off for a beer or whisky and couldn't help.

Now to sort out the sawmill.

An extra photo of two of the four immigrants in our parish, part of our selective entrance plan. If you play good football, pick our fruit & veg for the supermarket, clean our toilets, care for our elderly, heal our sick, serve us our pizzas or add a splash of African nature to our cold climes, then you are welcome.
