Wine-not?

Today we have enjoyed an escorted wine tour of Stellenbosch, Franschoek & the Paarl Valley.

The weather has been awful; the rain woke me at 3am and has been torrential for most of the day. It didn't matter to us though as we were warm and dry in the minibus.

We weren't sure what to expect, but it's been good fun, with a nice group of people.
The first stop was at Boschendal, which is the 2nd oldest and 2nd largest wine estate in South Africa.
The tour guide there was really good fun and led us on a tour of the cellar (pictured) before we got to the tasting room. We got to taste 6 different wines and ended up buying a couple of bottles to take home. This was our favourite place of the three we visited.

For lunch we stopped in Franschoek (which means French corner) and had the most amazing potato skins (which also helped to soak up the alcohol before the afternoons tasting sessions)

We had a further 2 tasting sessions, with another 6 wines at each place, plus cheese at the second place, so it was a good idea to book a tour as we felt a bit squiffy after all those wines!

The tour guide was lovely and really informative; he gave us a few more tips for the other days out we have planned.

Tonight we are going to the famous 'Butchers Grill' for food (I'm not sure if Koko recommended this place?), so I'm looking forward to a nice juicy steak :-)
