Halden Prison

On Sunday night I was playing a Halden boardgame like trivial pursuit, I learnt that Halden has one of Norway's highest security prisons. I had no idea and so today I went to investigate.
The whole facility is surrounded by a 1.5km, 6m high wall, however this is the only conventional security device. The philosophy of the prison is to be as close to a community environment as possible, so that upon release, the inmates don't have to adjust too much - focus being rehabilitation. Interestingly the prison population is only 60% norwegians, the rest being international.
The prison is renowned for being the most humane in Europe (or even the world), but this is not without contreversy, as some political parties claim that the living conditions are actually better than care homes!
