Great Scott!

This is the Scott Monument, located in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.  Of Victorian Gothic design, it was built in honour of Sir Walter Scott.  It was completed in 1844 but unfortunately the architect, George Kemp, was unable to see his completed structure as, one foggy night, on his way home from the site, he fell into the Union Canal and drowned.  This is the largest sculpture created for a writer in the world.  The structure contains 64 statues and stands at 200ft tall.  There are 287 steps up which you can climb to the viewing platform at the top.  The statue of Sir Walter is made of white marble.
