Nuclear Fallout Shelter !!

I visited the Castle Court Underground Bunker behind the Shire Hall, Cambridge. It was created so that a group of advisers and council leaders could co-ordinate a response to a nuclear incident. Inside was a long corridor with various rooms for different purposes. I have shown the Nuclear'Fallout Shelter.' The Protect and Survive public information leaflets and films advised all householders to prepare a shelter such as this in their homes and await instructions via the radio. Some broadcasts would be transmitted from this bunker. First remove a door and prop it up in a corner, cover it with a mattress and old carpet. Put a few things you will need such as a kettle, tea and provisions, cards and games to relieve the boredom,  as the family huddles under the door ! Bored ! We would more likely be terrified  No mention of toilet facilities ! I can actually remember this information but I didn't notice one in our house. The extra is the original engine room, with the generator and air pump which fed a pipe running the length of the corridor. This air flow system would be shut off in the event of a nuclear war. There was also a flood detection system. Actually, last time it was open to the public I couldn't get in as it was closed due to flooding ! Another room gave a film show of the times and I also saw the document room. Well, make what you will of this. I just kept thinking of the Raymond Briggs animation, 'When The Wind Blows' A disaster film  where elderly Jim and Hilda are victims of a nuclear fallout and decide to sit out in the ''sunshine'' after emerging from behind their door shelter. So thought provoking. .
