Felixstowe: another view of ...

... the giant container ship in Port, and the loading cranes.

Such a difference in the dockworkers' role nowadays. I remember very well in London as recently as the mid-1960s crossing the Thames bridges on my way to work and seeing gangs of men, like an army of ants, loading and unloading single sacks and boxes by hand.

Oops! did I say "recently" ??? ... It's hard to believe that was half a century ago!

Today the job is done by a few crane drivers and every container "knows" exactly where it has to be placed for easy retrieval on arrival. (I wouldn't fancy the job of looking for an item at the bottom of the pile without today's smart software!)
