Ambleside

What an absolute superb day, one that could not have been better. We were up and out to the top of Latrigg first thing, finding the summit to ourselves which was very surprising given the brilliance of the morning. Mist was trapped in the valleys, the sun bright and a cooling breeze; heavenly.

Picking up Doreen we travelled to Ambleside to catch a Windermere Cruise boat to Bowness, stopping at Badgers Bar at the Glen Rothay Hotel for a very nice lunch.

It was idyllic on the lake; a cooling breeze and superb views to the east of the lakeshore and fells. At Bowness we had a welcome cup of tea then walked along to Cockshot Point towards the Windermere Ferry.

The journey back to Ambleside was probably the best part of a great day. Setting sun, golden light with the mountains of the Langdales, Crinkle Crags and Bowfell looking like cardboard cutouts of different shades, much like an impressionist painting but so difficult to capture on camera, especially the iPhone which I have to use to blip when I'm away. (No way at the moment to upload shots from the Panasonic)

This shot was the last one of the day; at Ambleside in the golden light of a setting sun, the boats quiet and at rest at the end of the day.
