High and low

Went to the 9/11 museum today - took a tour, very sobering. Like Auschwitz two years ago, the sense of intimacy you felt with people -someone's glasses, a lost train pass, the fireman's helmet - was overbearingly sad.

Earlier in the day we had coffee and grilled cheese sandwiches at the excellent Think Coffee where I took a "people watching" shot (see extras) of a very intense woman dressed like a park ranger and a contrasting couple. It just struck me as an interesting composition. We then walked the Highline, which is an amazing urban space and part of the West side's regeneration and gentrification. Basically a community led and funded eco project using an old elevated railway line to bring greenery and pedestrian walking space along the Hudson river part of West Side. Don't miss the statue of the near naked sleepwalker. There is also the lovely Chelsea Market near the end where we had a drink and where I bought myself a present - partly to cope with a panic attack which may have been due to me forgetting to take my pills the night before...

After 9/11 in late afternoon we were feeling sombre and walked for a while.We went to the nearby Barnes and Noble book store for coffee and browsing, then wandered up to West Village and pizza in Wild, which is a local / non touristy Italian restaurant with some New York twists and a great atmosphere. I would give it 7 (plus) out of 10 for food and wine; it is worth going to for the vibe and just to hear the slightly crazy and eclectic staff bickering, and to do a bit of people watching...
