Everyday I Write The Book

Oldest swinger in town

No not me. This guy playing baseball with a bunch of other older guys in central park. I have to say he looked pretty damn good and hit the ball a lot better than I could.

Started off with breakfast in Route 66 which is a diner at the top end of 9th Avenue where the food is excellent and good value. And they put cinnamon rather than chocolate on their cappuccino which is unusual but very nice. We walked up through the park to the Metropolitan Museum of Art which was fabulous; haven't enjoyed a gallery so much in ages, they have some lovely recreations of New England rooms from the eighteenth century and a little section on the Shakers which is really intriguing. Fell in love with some of the simple furniture for which this offshoot of the Quaker movement is famous. And rediscovered the impressionists big time. A very relaxing and uplifting experience.

Took the subway down to South Manhattan. Sat by the river waiting to go up the One World Observatory and watched the sun making shadows on the cyclists and pedestrians going by. The 102nd floor is pretty impressive; we watched the sun go down over the city - I particularly liked the views of the Brooklyn Bridge.

We ate in a rather fab Mexican restaurant - Dos Caminos - which is a small chain - we were outside the 9th Avenue one which was very vibrant, lots going on on the streets. Finished off with a lovely smoky tequila then walked fourteen blocks home under a Manhattan Moon, peeking out from behind the skyscrapers.

Obviously still worried about Dylan and had one or two tearful connections with home. But a great day. Fly home late tomorrow.
