Purple Heron

A magnificent Purple Heron amongst the reeds and greenery at Dahriz, Salalah. You may wonder from my photo why it is called a Purple Heron, but this bird can actually have some purple feathers, although the plumage seems to be mainly a more chestnut brown. Weighing in at a maximum of three pounds it is tall at 38 inches and having a wingspan of 60 inches, but it is slender and smaller than a grey heron. It breeds in Africa, central and southern Europe and southern and eastern Asia. This heron winters in Africa and Asia.
The extra is the incredible Wadi Darbat, soon the rainy season will be replaced by the very hot and sunny season and Wadi Darbat will be tinder dry again. Seems incredible doesn't it?
