Unable To Watch

The heatwave might now be over but it was still a beautiful day, with very summer like temperatures. It was the last round of games of the cricket season and the second team, top of the league and already promoted, had a chance to take the league title if they could win today against the team just behind them.

Ben Rhydding bowled Bolton Villas out for 138. We collapsed early in reply, before Forrest scored a watchful 24 in a 5th wicket partnership which brought us back into the game. Sadly, he was then caught and another collapse ensued. It was pretty much all over with the last pair at the wicket, but with a smoted six, a few boundaries and a regular collection of ones and twos, the scoreboard kept ticking over.

At this point we just needed 8 more runs for a very unlikely win. So tantalisingly close. The fags came out. There was lots of pacing about. Nobody could watch. But it wasn't to be. The last wicket fell next ball. That's cricket. It torments you this game.
