Desperately seeking

Empty

We said goodbye to Ash today as he went to sleep for the last time.

Such a shock! Ash was so much better this morning , we were unprepared for him going..... today. Yesterday just seemed like a bad dream The Mate took him to the vet's, now expecting a prescription to keep him going a bit longer... a few more days... a few more weeks.

It was not to be. The vet wondered if the cancer of 9 months ago had spread. She did a scan. She did an x-ray. The evidence was there, a lesion against the back wall of his abdomen, thought to be giving rise to pressure on a nerve and on the aorta. his legs hadn't been working well for a few weeks but now he wasn't able to empty his bladder resulting in both retention and incontinence. At the moment his bladder was distended.

The Mate had said all along that Ash's comfort would come first over his own desire to enjoy his company.

Such love hurts.

"The best dog, ever!"
