The Channel

As part of {inside}OUTSIDE, a week-long exhibition in Oxford of social sculpture, this ‘phone box’ has been set up as a channel of communication enabling messages to cross the (English) Channel: from refugees in ‘The Jungle’ in Calais to people in Oxford and from Oxford back to the Jungle. I listened to three messages today and recorded one to send back.

The Channel’s time in Oxford has been supported in part by Asylum Welcome, the local refugee organisation for which I recruit volunteers. One of its 150 volunteers just happens to be an award-winning professional film-maker who has recently produced a documentary about refugees and asylum seekers in Oxford. It’s impressive. Full version is 27 minutes; cut down version is 6 minutes.
