Girls Go Gliding

Sunday afternoon soaring with fellow aviatrix Jules was a great way to round off a lovely fly out today. We met up in the air with four vintage aircraft from the flying club and then flew in a loose formation for lunch at Andrewsfield in Essex.

Our chariot today was a Grob 109B motor glider which is aerodynamically slick and much faster than the two Piper Cubs, Nord and Cessna120 that joined us.

On our return leg we went playing with the clouds taking advantage of the lift from the unstable weather. We hit an average of 5.8 knots on the variometer at one stage and climbed 400ft in no time at all.

As you can see from the photo we needed the airbrakes to lose the lift and aid our descent from 2700ft to land at the gliding club field 600ft AGL.

Looking forward to more flying again soon. The best stress relief there is!
