"Sold as seen - broken"

Charity shop small cupboard arrived today and was left under the carport and covered in a rather pongy rag as I was out on visits all day. This is the top of it. Lovely patina.

It's flawed and broken, a metaphor for humans or society maybe?

A little known fact about me ( maybe acknowledged by two people I know) I'm a wizz with French polishing, well for a lay person (and that's just my opinion). I reckon GCSEs and A level art somehow, unwittingly, taught me the skills I needed. Looking forward to getting my hands on this :-)

In other news a guy in my office has arranged for a weekend works do that coincides with my birthday. There are only a few of us going and I'm the oldest by far but I can't resist a little zip wire action. I'm not sure how MrH will feel about it as partners are not invited. Interestingly it's a bunch of people who don't socialise with each other at all. Most are doctors (will be in need of non academic fun) and most are under 30 (very fit and flexible compared to yours truly). Could be interesting!

I just need to remember what to do with my carabiners and I'll be ok! I recall something about opposing carabiners but can't recall if you do or don't go for that!

In other, other news I've given much more money to charity in the last two weeks than I have for a very long time and it feels good. I sponsored four businesses using my 'Lend with Care' account yesterday and I also revisited the main Oxfam website and bought some cool vintage bits. I'm hoping the money goes to where it is needed the most. Things feel rather depressing right now after watching the news . . .
