Adventures with Blodwen

I offered some dog-walking hours in the auction last week and have been booked to exercise Blodwen, a Jack Russell/cocker spaniel cross. We had our first outing today, around the harbour near her home.  She looked at me askance when we set out but by the time we reached the end of the quay she seemed fine and didn't even mind when I removed the crab claw she was crunching.

Here is Blodwen beside a waste bin. On top is an ash tray, blwch llwch  in Welsh which actually translates as dust box.. The w is pronounced 'oo' and the ch  is the same as in 'loch' or 'Bach'. The double ll  is pronounced something like 'thl' but softer. It's been suggested that the name was actually copied from the sound of a smoker coughing.
