An Emerging Catkin

I needed a blip from home today. When I blipped the emerging new leaves on the silver birches earlier in the week, I notice that new catkins were also being formed, so that is what I have captured for today.

Once up on the screen I could see that there are even more aphids on the catkin than there were on the leaves. It is absolutely covered in them - I don't think you could put a pin between them.

I went back out to look on the tree but the aphids are not visible to the naked eye. They are only just visible on blip and it  is only when you zoom in on a section of the photo that they can clearly be seen.

Despite the wild life, the fresh green "candles" light up the mainly bare trees
