Das Sauwetter

"Sau" is pronounced exactly like the word for a female pig - sow.  The poor Sau gets used in a lot of pejorative ways it can be saukalt (really, really cold), things can be sauteuer (really, really expensive), someone can be saublöd (not particularly clever). 

The only positive terms I know are saugeil - which we'll translate as "completely brilliant" - and saugut - really fine.and sauwohl (to feel like a million dollars).

I'm prepared to accept that I don't have that extensive a vocabulary and you'll have many more examples where it gets used in a positive sense.

It's been a somewhat inclement and I'm drawn to use the message that I received a few weeks ago and saying it's been pudding from the heavens again.

We went shopping though, just like everyone else in Wiesbaden.  Monday is a holiday here and that means everyone has to buy as much as they can to survive 2 days without a shop being open.

The blip shows the rain slackening off.  It was much heavier earlier.  Which reminds me, rain isn't "heavy" here, it's "stark" or strong (and it's also not light but "schwach" or weak).
