View from Wether Hill

A much-needed day off! After a slow walk with Louie, MrM and I set off at a faster pace and walked part of the Hill Fort Trail from Ingram.

First stop was the settlement near the top of Wether Hill. Apparently, in 1997, archaeologists found pottery fragments from the Neolithic period here, so the occupation may have pre-dated the Iron Age structure.  We sat and enjoyed our picnic near the settlement in warm sunshine, taking in the views - the blip is looking towards the Cheviot, hidden under a blanket of cloud.

From there we walked over to Cochrane Pike, on which there was another settlement. Then back to Ingram via Ewe Hill, unfortunately arriving just too late to visit the tea room. So we sat by the River Breamish in the Ingram Valley and finished off the coffee.

A lovely walk and not too strenuous - just under 4.5 miles - with some fabulous views from the tops.
