Canada Geese

What a glorious day it has been. Brilliant blue sky, 15 degrees and no wind or rain. Perfect weather for a walk around Burton Mere.

When we arrived there were not too many geese around on the main scrape, but within the hour, the loud honking heralded the arrival of hundreds of Canada Geese. They flew in from all directions and soon filled the mere.

We walked up to Inner Marsh Farm hide which was extraordinarily busy. No real rarities, and they were all quite far away, so we're unsure why so many people were there......
There were a few waders - dunlin, little stint, snipe, and a curlew sandpiper apparently. It didn't look much different to a common sandpiper if you ask me, but then it was quite a distance and I only have binoculars and not the super expensive scope of some of the more serious twitchers.

We spent an enjoyable few hours birding, and then went for a late lunch at Chiquitos at Cheshire Oaks - I wish we hadn't bothered. The food was mediocre and the service was shocking - and it wasn't even that busy.

Now I have the Ryder Cup on in the background whilst I do some admin - I live in hope, but think it will be an American success this time :(
