German Sausage, Anyone? - back blip

Based on my niece's recommendation, when we left Fishers, IN, we headed to Schmidt's Restaurant und Sausage Haus in the old German Village, Columbus, OH. J. Fred Schmidt, an immigrant from Germany, started a small meat packing company in 1886. In 1914, the Schmidt's opened the first food stand at the OH State Fair. They opened their restaurant in its current location in 1967. They gained national recognition when the Food Channel filmed Marc Silverman's "The Best Of" series featured the Schmidt's one pound cream puff. In 2008, they were also featured on the Travel Channel. We sampled their buffet and took home a few cream puffs and agree this restaurant is a "must try" for anyone traveling near Columbus, OH. And walk next door to grab a few of their number one rated buckeyes and/or tasty homemade fudge.
