An Irishman's Castle ...

A beautiful mild day with interesting cloudage. This is looking out towards the Mizen Peninsula. The bracken is a rich russet, the grass is emerald, the sheep busy eating and Lord Bandon's Folly (tower) is looking a bit sorry for itself. Someone has recently bought it and half heartedly attempted a bit of restoration including slopping on a bit of white render which looks all wrong. It was built during the Famine as an opportunity for starving people to earn a pittance. It mimics a tower house across the water.  Things were very different on the north side overlooking Beara - see extra.

The tower is derelict so an early entry for DS52. Thanks to everyone who entered a photo for last week's DS. Here are my faves:
Broken Breakwater by Paused: solemn stillness and a fine reflection
A Photo Opportunity  by Greg Lovett: so cleverly done, artist and photographer!
Not Quite Derelict! Sunday by Honeycombebeach: a happy ending
The Old Cricket Pavilion  by Tony Luxton: just beautifully blipped
Mrshb70's:  little cabin, I could move right in!

And don't forget - we're now in DS52, celebrating a whole year's worth of dereliction!! I'm sure there must be some fine examples near you!

And I'm just out for a talk on Bantry saints - you don't get more fascinating than that. Catch up later.
