Chocorua Mountain, Evening

This evening my cousins invited us for dinner nearby in Tamworth. We had our aperitifs and the meal on their screen porch, with this wonderful view before us. This was take at 7:30 (about 20 minutes before sunset), after a brief rain had ended.

Mount Chocorua (pronounced Sh-CAR-wuh) is in the Sandwich Range in the White Mountains; its altitude is 3,490 feet (1,064 m). I've known it since childhood, and it's still a thrill to catch a good glimpse of it. The best-known view is from Chocorua Lake. Its picturesque summit is a cone of large rocks, making the final approach to the top extremely strenuous.
