Magnificent…………….

……………….....….Gannets

There are four main gannet colonies found at Cape Kidnappers, Hawkes Bay, NZ. It is the largest mainland nesting place of gannets in the world.

The Australasian Gannet is a member of the Booby family and return each summer to Cape Kidnappers to nest.

This afternoon we took the overland safaris tour to see this spectacular sight and we weren’t disappointed. We were only metres from these birds. (The only access is by tour bus or an 18km return walk along the beach at low tide)

Extra photos
1: The male gannets collect seaweed from the rocks below these cliffs for nesting material and today, being early in the season we saw plenty of this activity.
2: Nesting pair amongst the crowd.
3: Looking over the end at Cape Kidnappers which also shows another of the four colonies of gannets.

Once again it is late and we have a busy day planned for tomorrow so my apologies for lack of comments. I really appreciate your comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s blip. Thank you very much everyone. I forgot to mention that the whole station building is included with the accommodation deal per booking - we certainly had space to spread out!
